IMPLIKASI ISTRI SEBAGAI WANITA KARIR TERHADAP PEMENUHAN KEWAJIBAN DALAM KELUARGA PERSPEPKTIF HUKUM KELUARGA ISLAM

Abstract The phenomenon of the increasing number of wives working as career women is one of the social realities that cannot be avoided in the development of modern society, including in Sumber Ketempa Village, Kalisat District, Jember Regency. This research aims to examine the implications of wives as career women on family obligations and how Islamic family law perspectives view this phenomenon. The focus of this study is directed at two main problems: First, what are the impacts of wives as career women on family obligations; Second, how Islamic family law perceives this phenomenon. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively and analytically. The findings indicate that the presence of wives as career women brings both positive and negative impacts. The positive impacts include improving family economic conditions, fostering independence, and serving as role models for children. However, negative impacts were also found, such as reduced family togetherness, neglect of some household duties, physical and mental fatigue, and decreased supervision of children, which may potentially lead to household conflicts. From the perspective of Islamic family law, a wife still has primary responsibilities within the household, particularly in child-rearing and accompanying her husband. However, Islam does not prohibit women from working as long as they uphold dignity, do not neglect family obligations, and obtain permission from their husbands. Therefore, it can be concluded that the involvement of wives as career women is acceptable as long as they are able to balance domestic and public roles while maintaining family harmony.
